E-M:/ Jet Ski ban at Pictured Rocks not a done deal (?)

Enviro-Mich message from John Rebers <jrebers@nmu.edu>

Reading between the lines of the article below, and also reading the local
coverage in the Mining Journal, my interpretation is that the Park Service
could try to make an argument that there is no "harm" from using jet skis
at Pictured Rocks. From the article below, "The Park Service agreed that
each of the sites will be added to a list of personal watercraft-free zones
in two years unless it can be shown the boats are harmless."

I'd urge everyone to write to:

Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore
PO Box 40
N8391 Sand Point Road
Munising, MI 49862-0040

You might mention that you support the nationwide ban of personal
watercraft, or PWCs in general, and support extending the ban to the Lake
Superior shoreline along Pictured Rocks. You can also request that these
comments be taken into account for revision of the General Management Plan
(for more info on GMP revision, see http://www.nps.gov/piro/gmpupdat.htm).
If you have had personal experiences in which the quality of your visit to
Pictured Rocks was affected by PWCs, those should be mentioned in your
letter. And of course, there are also pollution and water quality issues to
