NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY
DRINKING AND RADIOLOGICAL PROTECTION DIVISION
The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, Drinking Water and Radio-
logical Protection Division (Department) will conduct a public hearing on a pro-
posal by the Perrier Group of America, d.b.a. Great Spring Waters of America, to
construct and operate a public water supply for use as a source for bottling drink-
ing water. The site currently being considered for the "spring water" wells is in Sec-tion 5, Morton Township, Mecosta County, known as the "Sanctuary Site." Permits to construct two wells have been issued. However, the Department has not approved any wells to be put into service pending a determination of compliance with the Michigan Safe Drinking Water Act, 1976 PA 399, as amended.
The public hearing will be held on May 16, 2001, at 6:00 p.m., in the University
Room A and B of the Holiday Inn Hotel & Conference Center, Ferris State University, 1005 Perry Street (US-131, exit 139), Big Rapids, Michigan.
The public hearing will provide an opportunity for the Department to explain the criteria for approval of the proposed nontransient noncommunity public water supple under the Safe Drinking Water Act, and allow all interested parties the opportunity to comment on the proposal.
All interested persons are invited to attend and present their views. It is request-
ed that all statements be submitted in writing for the hearing record. Anyone unable to attend may submit comments in writing to the Ground Water Supply Section at the following address. Written comments must be received by May 21, 2001.
