Enviro-Mich:  From Jan O'Connell of West Michigan Group Sierra Club -- trade and environmental concerns
 
 
 Hopefully you can catch one or more of the following events sponsored by the
"West Michigan Network on Global Trade with Justice"...which will parallel
West Michigan's 16th annual "World Trade Week," that is focusing this
year on Mexico.
 

  WEST MICHIGAN NETWORK ON GLOBAL TRADE W/JUSTICE EVENTS

1)  May 12th (Saturday) Evening Mother's Day Spaghetti Dinner featuring  
      Rafaela Castro, who's being flown in from Matamoros, Mexico to tell us
      what it's like being a Mother working in the Maquiladoras.  There will also
      be a video shown entitled "On The Border" which shows some of the
      working and living conditions in the border town of Matamoros.

2) May 13th (Sunday) Some church events focusing on Global Trade
     Issues.  Locations to be announced!
 
3)  May 14th (Monday)
     TEACH-IN & RALLY at 5PM in front of the Gerald R Ford Museum
     w/Rafaela Castro as one of the speakers talking about  the other side of
     NAFTA and how that has affected her community. We will also feature
     additional speakers from the West Michigan Area...on religion, labor &
     the environment.  More information to follow!  This event is being held
     simultaneously as a reception from 5:30-7:30PM honoring the Mexican     
     Ambassador to the United States, The Honrable Juan Jose Bremer.
