PLEASE PLAN TO ATTEND. Have been made aware of a Mecosta Township hearing on May 7, 2001 at 7:30 PM, at the Mecosta Township Hall - 19729 11 Mile Rd., Big Rapids on designating an Industrial Development District on the property commonly known as 19338 8 Mile Road - Stanwood, MI which is Jerry Laine's property where Perrier is considering a plant site. The only standard that must be met is if the Industrial Development District established for a tax abatement is in the public interest.
Once the district is established, instead of property tax, the company pays an Industrial Facilities Tax (IFT) which amounts to a reduction in property taxes of approximately 50%.
Please come to this meeting to show support for the residents of Mecosta Township.
PLEASE PLAN TO ATTEND. A reminder of the DEQ Public Hearing on May 16, 2001 at the Holiday Inn at 6:00 PM at the Holiday Inn in Big Rapids. Bring your questions and concerns to be heard by the DEQ.
The following message was received with an explanation of the DEQ Public Hearing from Richard L. Overmyer, Chief Noncommunity Unit
Drinking Water and Radiologic Protection Division
Michigan Department of Environmental Quality
3423 N. M.L. King Jr. Blvd. Phone: 517-335-8310
P.O. Box 30630 Fax: 517-335-9434
Lansing, MI 48909-8130 Email: email@example.com
It will be held under Rule 202 of Michigan's Safe
Drinking Water Act, Act 399 of Public Acts of 1976 and Rules.
-The notice will probably be published this week.
-I believe DEQ will provide an opening summary of the permit process for the wells
and what decisions have been made to date. Then the public will have an
opportunity to comment for the record.
-Written comments will be accepted.
-Speakers will probably be limited to a few minutes.
-We will ask those wanting to speak to sign up at the door
-There may be limited dialogue, but not a debate. The hearing is to take public
testimony on the record for DEQ to consider in the permitting process.
-By taking written comment and establishing a reasonable time limit for
speakers, we should be able to accommodate all at one hearing.
-We will summarize what has been done to date.
-A meeting summary will be prepared.
