E-M:/ Smog Report

Enviro-Mich message from alexsagady@netscape.net

This is your smog reporter, jacking-in from Albany NY
where I am subjecting the New York State Department of
Environmental Conservation and another foreign-owned
cement company to my "methods".....

Michigan is currently in the midst of an ozone episode.

Yesterday, the following 8 hour concentrations were measured
over the level of the new health standard (85 ppb):

Benzonia 86
Scottville 90
Muskegon 89
Holland 88
Coloma 85
Jenison 86
Evans 92
Houghton Lake 87
Harbor Beach 87
Port Huron 103
New Haven 105
Warren 90
Oak Park 88

Near misses at Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Detroit (e 7 mile)

New Haven had a 1 hr excursion (127 ppb) over the old standard
and Port Huron had a near miss at 122.

MDEQ's "ozone action day" declarations are in effect for
today and Friday

Ontario has widespread smog alerts out.

At 2 PM, Thursday, hourly smog numbers are rising at a number of

Benzonia 106
Scottville 102
Houghton Lake 101
Warren 114

Oak Park, Detroit (E 7 mile) and New Haven are at 97.

Several Michigan stations will likely have another day of
unhealthy air pollution, in this, the best possible of all worlds
of environmental protection under Engler/Harding, who you can also
thank for their attempts to delay interstate nitrogen oxide
controls for smog and for their efforts to weaken national
public health standards.
