E-M:/ South Fox Island editorial from State News

Enviro-Mich message from "Upton, Brian" <BUPTON@mail.gtbindians.com>

Today's State News (Michigan State University's daily newspaper) has an
editorial opposing the DNR's proposed land exchange on South Fox Island. It
notes that the DNR has, in the past, missed chances to expand public
ownership on the Island. The editorial says that it "is surprising the
state is even considering this land trade. There is no good reason for the
deal and the public has little to gain."

The State News is the 6th Michigan newspaper to editorialize on the South
Fox Island exchange proposal (others include: Leelanau Enterprise, Traverse
City Record-Eagle, North Woods Call, Detroit Free Press and Grand Rapids
Press). All of these papers have expressed concerns about the public
interest in South Fox. The State News is the 4th paper to completely oppose
the land swap proposal (joining Grand Rapids Press, Leelanau Enterprise and
the North Woods Call).
