Community Workshop: Culture & Health: The Arab Americans
Wednesday, August 1, 2001

Is culture related to health? Issues such as culture and immigration have
been found to have a substantial affect on the health of people and their
communities. This session will give a brief overview of Arab American
history, immigration, and culture in Southeastern Michigan. In addition, the
health status of Arab Americans in Southeastern Michigan will be discussed,
as well as the association between cultural issues and health. Lastly, an
overview of health care system, such as access to medical services in the
Arab American community will be presented.

As part of the Arab American Environmental Health Project, the Community
Workshops on Environmental and Justice aim to promote knowledge and skills
related to environmental health in the Arab American community residing in
Southeastern Michigan. Sessions will empower participants to get involved
and make a difference in protecting the community's health and environmental
