Review underway of State Transportation Improvement Plan
Public review process begins today

The Michigan Department of Transportation today released the 2002-2004 State Transportation Improvement Plan, marking the beginning of a two-week public review process.

The STIP is a three-year program required by the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century.

It includes all transportation projects to be authorized for federal funding in 2002-2004. It also contains information on state-funded projects, a description of the statewide planning process, MDOT's goals and a financial plan for these years.

The STIP is developed by MDOT in cooperation with metropolitan planning organizations and local transportation agencies statewide to provide quality transportation that meets federal requirements.

The STIP is available for public review and comment for two weeks at MDOT's region offices and transportation service centers statewide. The document also can be viewed at MDOT's Web site at www.mdot.state.mi.us.
