Apparently the bright red ones are the natives. The brown ones are
apparently the interloper Asian variety. According to info on the web, they
don't bite. But since they eat aphids & other insects, seems to me that they
have to eat with something capable of biting...

BTW, a quick search with WebFerret yielded over threehundred hits.

Also, if you find plant damage, don't blame it on the ladybeetles just
because they are the only insect around at the time. They probably already
ate the bad ones and are just waiting for more.
