E-M:/ Greening of Detroit

Enviro-Mich message from Curt Guyette <cguyette@metrotimes.com>

In this week's issue of Metro Times there is a story about attempts to
spur large-scale, eco-friendly development in Detroit. Designers from
the University of Detroit Mercy have created a plan for 3,000 acres on
the city's east side. The project, whiich features a host of innovative
ideas, envisions urban agriculture playing a key role in redeveloping
the area's blighted neighborhoods. Because there are so many abandoned
houses and vacant lots, supporters contend that Detroit offers a unique
opportunity among America's major metropolitan areas, and believe the
city could become a leader in promoting sustainable development. You can
read the story, "Greening of Detroit" online at www.metrotimes.com.
