Transit Debate in Sunday's Detroit News

Hi Folks:

Sunday's Detroit News & Free Press carried a pro-con debate about the merits of the proposed regional rapid transit plan in Southeast Michigan. The News asked the Institute to write the article in support of transit and an Oakland County commissioner authored the "con" piece.

I note the lasting efforts of metro Detroit groups Metropolitan Organizing Strategy Enabling Strength (MOSES) and Transportation Riders United (TRU) in carrying the pro-transit message for years before regional officials finally engaged.

This was a great opportunity for the Smart Growth community to spread the message that developing world-class transit in Michigan is an issue of economic competitiveness, everyday quality of life, and environmental sustainability.
