Enviro-Mich message from "Pat Diehl" <patmec@voyager.net>

The Michigan Coastal Management Program (MCMP) of the Department of
Environmental Quality is pleased to announce the availability of grant funds
for coastal projects to begin in October 2002.

The MCMP was developed under the federal Coastal Zone Management Act and
approved in 1978. Since then, the MCMP has provided financial assistance to
local communities to protect and manage their coastal areas, conduct studies
related to sound coastal management, and increase recreational opportunities
along Michigan's Great Lakes coast.

If you are interested in participating in this grant program, please submit
a hard copy of the application postmarked no later than April 1, 2002. The
application can be downloaded from www.deq.state.mi.us/lwm under Great Lakes
Shorelands Section, Coastal Programs.

All requested information must be submitted by the deadline date.
Applications that are incomplete may not be evaluated for funding
consideration. Proposal reviews will be conducted by staff during April and
may include a site visit during May or early June.

Requests for funding are limited to a maximum of $50,000 of grant funds.
All applicants must provide at least 50 percent of total project costs as
match, which may be in the form of in-kind services, donations or cash. If
you have questions, please call 517-373-1950.
