E-M:/ Today's Story On Canadian Waste

Enviro-Mich message from "David Holtz" <david.holtz@sierraclub.org>

Lisa Collins has a powerful piece in today's Metro Times about a Canadian
company with a long history of seriously bad acts involving the hauling of
industrial wastes into Michigan from Canada. The company, Canflow, dumps its
industrial wastes into Detroit's sewers and Detroit residents say Canflow's
waste is coming into their homes and is making them sick. Canflow's permit
was yanked by the city earlier this year after being cited for permit
violations--an action triggered by an evacuation of residents.

Along with Detroiters Working for Environmental Justice, the Sierra Club and
the Ecology Center, local residents are holding a press conference at 10 a.
m.this Saturday, Feb. 23 at St. Rita's, 1000 East State Fair, Detroit. The
city is planning to issue a new permit in March and residents want the
Detroit City Council to instead shut Canflow down.
