Enviro-Mich message from "Dave Dempsey" <davemec@voyager.net>

MUSKEGON, Mich. (AP) -- Christie Whitman, the head of the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency, visited this Lake Michigan city on Tuesday to announce a
new Bush administration plan that she says will help protect and restore the
Great Lakes.

After touring the EPA research vessel Lake Guardian, Whitman met with
reporters to discuss the plan, called "Great Lakes Strategy 2002 -- A Plan
for the New Millennium."

No additional governmental funding has been set aside for the plan, said
Steve Brandt, director of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration's Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory in Lansing.
