Enviro-Mich message from "Dave Dempsey" <davemec@voyager.net>

The contrast between a health-savvy column on consuming contaminated fish by
Barb Arrigo of the Detroit Free Press and a Saginaw News story on
disbelieving anglers on the Tittabawassee River shows how far we have to go
in addressing health risk communication in this state.

"The upshot is that women who plan to have children should be careful about
fish known to have high loads of mercury, avoiding some fish altogether and
carefully spacing meals with some others."

When it comes to dioxin problems in the Tittabawassee River, some Freeland
residents like to express their opinion by donning bright yellow ballcaps.
On the front of the caps it says "Freeland Walleye Festival." On the back it
reads "Dioxins my ass."
