E-M:/ Fresh Water Security

Dear Friends,
A far-reaching new water security plan would require Michigan companies and communities to confirm that an adequate supply of groundwater was available to meet future needs before large quantities could be withdrawn. It is the first time Michigan has proposed to directly link a community’s plan for growth and its water supply and represents a decided step forward in the state’s thinking about how to both expand the economy and conserve natural resources. The plan principal author is state Senator Ken Sikkema, Republican from Grandville and chair of the Senate natural resources committee.
The Michigan Land Use Institute's Andy Guy assessed the proposal in a new posting on the Institute Web site.
