Calling All Waders!

Kent County Stream Search 2002
A fun opportunity for you to be a citizen scientist!

When: May 11, Saturday, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 noon

Location: Cornerstone University, East Beltline between Leonard and I-96,
1001 E Beltline Ave Ne, Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Be there at 8:30 a.m. sharp to get assigned to a Stream Search team! Call
616-451-3051 for more information.

WMEAC and the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality have teamed up to
make a health check on Kent County Streams and Rivers. The scientific data
that Stream Search volunteers collect will give us valuable information on
the condition of our local streams.

When rivers and streams are healthy, the area is likely to be healthy for
people, too. At a time when our streams are being heavily affected by land
use changes, it is critical for us to keep a close eye on them. This is
where YOU come in!

People love participating in Stream Search, because it's fun! Wearing hip
waders and using nets, Stream Searchers capture stream-inhabiting insects
and other small aquatic creatures. We gather habitat and biological data on
a minimum of 35 Kent County stream sites per year. There are two event
sessions, one in spring and one in fall. Each event requires the help of 50
to 75 volunteers.

Volunteer assistants are welcome to just show up and go out with a team, but
we require that you register with West Michigan Environmental Action Center.
Join us for a fun morning.

We need name, mailing address, phone, email to document your participation.

More information and map to staging site.
