OZONE ACTION DAY IN SOUTHEASTERN AND WESTERN MICHIGAN FOR SUNDAY....
OZONE ACTION! FORECAST DISCUSSION
This morning's satellite and radar show patchy cloud cover along with some
scattered thundershowers over portions of the Northern Great Lakes. The
thicker morning cloud cover should give way to party sunny skies as the day
progresses, however. The Southern great lakes are experiencing mostly sunny
skies, which should continue throughout the day under the influence of the
building high pressure ridge. Temperatures should push close to the 80
degree mark today with daily maximums reaching the lower 80's in many
areas. South to southwest winds will be light (5 to 10 mph).
Winds will continue to be south to southwesterly on the backside of the
high pressure ridge on Sunday. In addition, skies should be partly to
mostly sunny which will put max temperatures in the low to mid 80's
throughout the area. An approaching frontal boundary on Monday could
increase cloudiness on Monday and give the area the chance for rain late
Monday or early Tuesday.
CONCLUSION
Building ozone concentrations Friday and Saturday along with forecasted
temperatures reaching the mid 80's on Sunday, warrants concern for
unhealthy (for sensitive groups) levels of ozone. Therefore, the Michigan
Department of Environmental Quality is issuing an Ozone Action Day! for all
participating Michigan counties for Sunday, June 9th. Concern for continued
unhealthy levels on Monday will require additional monitoring of the
situation. This forecast will be updated on Sunday, June 9th.
Forecast updated on Saturday, June 8th
