Friends,
You've probably heard of the Tour de France. Perhaps even attended a Tour
de Sprawl. Now, the Sierra Club & The Huron River Watershed Council
invite you to ... Tour de Wetlands 2002.
What will you do on the Tour de Wetlands? Travel in a luxurious AATA bus
to 5 beautiful wetlands. Hear experts explain how old, new, and
rehabilitated wetlands "work". Learn more about the nature that we pass
by every day in relative ignorance.
Date: Saturday, June 15, 2002 (rain or shine)
Time: 9:00 am to 1:00 pm
Place: Furstenberg Park in Ann Arbor on Geddes Road across from Huron High
Cost: Free of charge!
Wetland sites: Furstenberg Park, Shanghi Park at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital,
Dominos Farms, Pfizer, and the Children's Wet Meadow at Buhr Park
Partial list of speakers includes: Janis Bobrin, Drain Commissioner; Dave
Borneman from the Ann Arbor Parks Department Natural Area Preservation
Program; Don Tilton of Tilton and Associates; Patrick Judd and Peter Pollack
from Pollack Design Associates; Jeannine Palms from the Children's Wet
Meadow; and Lance Armstrong, world champion bicyclist (just kidding - he's
on the other Tour, the one with the baguettes and berets).
Kids are welcome, no membership is required, and there's no cost for
anything. Come have a fine time touring some of the nicest natural areas
around as part of Tour de Wetlands 2002.
Seats are limited, so advance registration is recommended. This will also
help us figure out how many buses we need. To save your seats or ask
questions, call Ellen Offen at (734) 769-5123 or e-mail her at
eoffen@hrwc.org. It's as simple as saying "I think I can make it, so save
me a seat."

Co-Chair, Sierra Club-Huron Valley Group
