E-M:/ Michigan Smog Worst in US Today

Enviro-Mich message from "Alex J. Sagady & Associates" <ajs@sagady.com>

Imagery available at http://www.epa.gov/airnow shows that
Michigan's ozone pollution today at Holland, Muskegon
and Benzonia is the worst in the United States.

At 6 PM, the Benzonia monitor in Northwest Michigan is
the most polluted place with 123 ppb (1 hr average)...just under the
old (but still applicable) standard of 125 ppb. Holland
is not far behind at 120 ppb (1 hr average).

At 6 PM, all ozone monitors in Western Michigan are
still showing 100 ppb one hour averages or over. Also over
100 ppb are ozone monitors in Oak Park, Warren and Harbor Beach.
Port Huron is at 99 ppb.

Statewide, all but 4 monitors in the state are showing 8 hour averages
over the numerical level (85 ppb) of the new 8 hour ozone health standard
as of 6 PM

AT 7 PM, air quality index readings for Holland and Muskegon are
showing LEVEL PURPLE, the highest unhealthy reading on the chart,
indicating "VERY UNHEALTHFUL." LEVEL RED is showing at Benzonia, Coloma,
Jenison (some error at this site), Oak Park, and Warren AT 7 pm.

Today there is considerable haze in the air but we'll have to
wait until tomorrow to get results for PM 2.5 for Michigan.
