Pittsfield Township Environment Day
Saturday, June 29, 9:30 am - 2:30 pm, Township Administration Building
6201 W. Michigan Ave. at Platt Road
This year, Township Clean-Up Day will be combined with the sale of
Earth Machine Composters and an opportunity for residents to have
mercury switches removed and replaced on their pre-1998 cars. This
will be the First Pittsfield Environment Day.
On Saturday, June 29, 2002, from 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., at the Township
Administration Building, Great Lakes Waste Service will be available
to take your large household discards and home toxics that are
difficult to dispose of.
What to bring:
Vehicles made prior to 1998-for mercury switch replacement.
Tires, computers, television sets, swing sets, fencing, batteries,
furniture, oil/filters, mattresses, paint, washers, dryers,
carpeting, ink cartridges, bicycles, stoves, shutters, books,
antifreeze, drywall, shingles, clothing, bricks, refrigerators,
freezers, air conditioners and other appliances that contain Freon.
Earth Machine Composters will be sold at the same price as last year.
Pittsfield Township residents can purchase the Earth Machine for a
discounted price of $20.00 (tax included). Proof of residency must
be presented-photo identification, or voter registration, or a recent
utility bill. Non-residents may purchase composters for $37.10 (tax
included). Nothing beats a good backyard composter to reduce the
amount of kitchen and yard waste headed for the landfill; as an added
bonus, you get river-safe fertilizer for the garden!
Some older cars contain mercury switches for their trunk and hood
lights. The Ecology Center will be at Environment Day to check your
car and provide free replacement if you have a mercury switch. This
will prevent mercury from contaminating soil when your car reaches
the end of its useful life a
