The Marquette Biological Station delivers an integrated program of
sea lamprey control to assist in restoration of the Great Lakes fishery.
Our work takes us to locations throughout the Great Lakes basin. We
assess larval and adult sea lamprey populations and control sea lamprey
numbers
with a variety of state of the art techniques. Control techniques
include application of lampricide in natal streams to kill larvae; and
innovative alternative technologies that limit reproduction like trapping,
sterile
male release, and use of barriers to the spawning migration. We work
closely with federal, state, and tribal agencies and international
organizations including the Great Lakes Fishery Commission and the
Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada.

Marquette is a small community nestled on the shores of Lake
Superior in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The city is surrounded by a
bounty
of water and forestland. There are four distinct seasons that provide a
wide variety of outdoor recreational activities including hunting, fishing,
skiing, mountain biking, camping, hiking, and boating. Marquette is the
home of Northern Michigan University which offers opportunities for
continuing education.

For further information contact Michael Fodale (906.226.1223) or Michael
Twohey (906.226.1226).
