Conservation and environmental groups endorsed Congressman David Bonior for
Governor, saying he is not only the candidate best equipped to lead Michigan
in protecting the Great Lakes, advancing outdoor recreation and restoring
public participation in natural resources and environmental decision-making,
but has a record doing so.

As many may remember, David Bonior wrote the first ban on PCBs as a State
Legislator. As a congressman he passed legislation banning Great Lakes oil
drilling, blocked efforts to weaken protections on drinking water from
arsenic, expanded clean water act funding, championed right to know laws and
led efforts to clean up Lake St. Clair, and was the lead champion who fought
the Gingrich Revolution and its efforts to roll back environmental laws.
Bonior has also earned praise from communities all over Michigan, like the
Greendale neighborhood in Detroit which is fighting CANFLOW, for his
knowledge and activity in helping them address environmental dangers in
their own backyards.

Add Alma Wheeler Smith to the ticket and all she has done on the State level
for Michigan's environment and you have an a ticket most environmental and
conservationist have been dreaming of.
