HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION
FOR OCTOBER 19TH, 2002

On Saturday, October 19th, from 10:00am until 2:00pm, the Genesee County
Household Hazardous Waste Consortium is sponsoring a household hazardous
waste collection day. Three locations will be available for residents to
drop off their hazardous waste free of charge: 1) Davison High School; and
2) Fenton High School. Materials for collection include batteries, old
pesticides and herbicides, paint thinners, oil-based paint, household
chemicals, aerosol cans, mercury and other household hazards. As part of
the collection, individuals can exchange their old mercury thermometers for
new digital thermometers while supplies last. Materials not accepted
include latex paint, medical, radioactive and explosive wastes. This
program is open to all residents of Genesee County.
Last spring, Genesee County residents disposed of 80,000 pounds
hazardous waste through this program, protecting both the environment and
our health. This program has collected over 1,000,000 pounds of toxic
chemicals. Help us continue that trend this year with another successful
collection.
