"LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Michigan needs to continue to improve its roads
to keep its economy strong, and may need to consider some alternative
means of getting around the state, gubernatorial candidates say....
Granholm is the most critical of the state of the roads.
"It's abysmal," she says. "No one who drives on other state roads and
comes to Michigan can say our roads are in good shape. ... In the
automotive capital of the world, you should not have to drive a Humvee with
a helmet down I-94 to feel safe" from being battered by bad roads."
