E-M:/ weeds or emergent wetlands?

Enviro-Mich message from "Dave Dempsey" <davemec@voyager.net>

A well-reported story running on the Great Lakes Radio Consortium this week
covers the debate between Saginaw Bay property owners on the one hand and
Terry Miller of the Lone Tree Council, an MEC member group, and scientists
on the other, about protection of publicly-owned Great Lakes bottomlands. It
is worth reading or listening to this story.

This is the same issue at stake in H.B. 6418, which would remove state DEQ
oversight authority over removal of vegetation and other activities in these
publicly-owned areas. The bill received a hearing in the State House Land
Use and Environment Committee November 7, but it is not clear whether there
will be further action in the lame-duck session.
