Ask for a vote on SB 11 (now in the House) reforming regulation of medical
waste. SB 11 upgrades emission controls, places a moratorium on new
incinerator permits & provides for a
transition to safer methods of medical waste disposal.

Contact Rep. Rick Johnson, House Speaker. Ask him to schedule a vote on SB
11 before
the session ends (Phone: 517-373-1747). Address: Hon. Rick Johnson,
Michigan House Speaker, P. O. Box 30014, Lansing, MI 48909-7514. Act Now!
The House will be in session again Decembe 3r.

Ask your House Representative to vote for SB 11. Contacting Republican
Representatives is especially important. Find your Representative on the
web at www.michiganlegislature.

Reducing mercury and other toxic emissions is supported by Gubernatorial
candidates, leaders in both Houses and is vital to clean air, clean water
and human health. SB 11 has strong support from health and environmental
organizations; it has already passed in the Senate. The Michigan Senate’s
2002 Great Lakes Conservation Task Force’s Final Report specifically asks
for reduction of mercury and other airborne toxins from waste incinerators.
