On Friday night at 9:00 ET (check local listings) Bill Moyers will present a special encore presentation of "Kids and Chemicals." ARE WE MAKING OUR CHILDREN SICK?
If you cannot view it because of holiday obligations, you can simply read a transcript of the show at: http://www.pbs.org/now/transcript/transcript117_full.html
The program features Dr. Sandra Steingraber who spoke on November 6th in Grosse Pointe, MI, at LocalMotion's 2002-2003 speaker series, "Improving the Environment for Our Children's Heath." See: http://www.local-motion.org
LocalMotion's upcoming speaker is Dr. Ruth Etzel (January 27, 2003). Etzel, a pediatrician and epidemiologist, served on Governor Engler's MI Environmental Science Board in 2000. Joining fellow pediatrician Dr. William Weil, they both dissented from the MESB's final recommendations that Michigan DO NOTHING to improve children's environmental health standards. Come hear what she has to say now.
On April 9th, award winning author Dr. Devra Lee Davis will speak on children's health. Last November her book, "When Smoke Ran Like Water, Tales of Environmental Deception and the Battle against Pollution (2002)" won a bronze medal as a National Book Award finalist for nonfiction. Davis, who serves on LocalMotion's board of directors, will appear on Moyer's NOW early next year.
And on May 6th MEC's Lana Pollack will lead a forum of four renowned environmentalists seeking to answer the question, "here's what you can do to create a local environmental health coalition." See the LocalMotion website for more information about guests, times and place.
Moyer's NOW program on Friday night looks at families around the country who are coping with the consequences to their children of potentially toxic exposures and features medical investigators and health officials engaged in the latest research
on links between childhood illness and environmental contamination.
Onwards and Upwards!
