WHAT? Big Rock Point Nuclear Reactor Decommissioning Waste is headed to
Waters Landfill, Maple Forest Township, Crawford County

Learn more at a Township Meeting at Maple Forest Towship Hall

WHEN?	Thursday, January 16, 2003 at 7 PM

WHO? 	Dr. Marvin Resnikoff, Radioactive Waste Management Associates;
		Diane D'Arrigo, Nuclear Information and Resource Service; and
		Michael Keegan, Coalition for Nuclear Free Great Lakes
will present & answer questions from the Maple Forest Town Board & the
public

WHY? Topics to be discussed include:
-> Role of Big Rock decommissioning in national effort to deregulate
radioactive wastes for disposal in unlicensed landfills, and "recycling"
into consumer goods;
-> Precedent for this site to take other nuclear waste once Big Rock's are
okayed;
-> Precedent for other Michigan waste sites to take radioactive wastes;
-> Compare amount of radioactivity & material projected here with that from
other closed nuclear power sites;
-> Evaluate the likelihood and importance of 'hot particles' in Big Rock
Point wastes;
-> Compare contamination levels projected for this project and previous
commitment to the community near the landfill;
-> Who will provide independent oversight on behalf of the local residents
and what power will they have to verify and enforce all conditions are met?

WHERE? Maple Forest Township Hall, corner Sherman Road and West Marker,
Maple Forest, Michigan (near Grayling and Frederic)
Directions:
 - From the south taking I-75 North:
Take I-75 North to exit 264 (Frederic Exit);
Turn right on Co. Rd. 612, go approx. 3mi.,
Turn left on Sherman Road (3rd road on the left, blacktop, on the top of a
hill, should see a large gray farmhouse to your right). Take Sherman
approx. 2 mi to West Marker (2nd rd. on the left side). Township hall sets
right on this corner. If you pass a sign that says Maple Forest Horse Farms
on the right, you just passed it.

 - From the north taking I-75 South:
Take I-75 South to the Waters exit (I think it's 269?); Go right off the
exit, up the hill and around the curves to Sherman Rd. (there is a small
sign that says landfill and an arrow just before. Also a house on the
corner that looks like an old schoolhouse); Turn right on Sherman, go
approx. 5 mi. to West Marker; (You will pass the landfill on the right,
it's 3 mi. past this point.) Township hall is on corner (left hand side,
just past a white-red trim ranch style home).
