E-M:/ Hearing on Romulus Haz. Waste Well THIS WEDNESDAY

Enviro-Mich message from Mary Beth Doyle <marybeth@ecocenter.org>

Don't like out-of-state waste coming to Michigan? How about
out-of-state HAZARDOUS waste?

Let the EPA know how you feel this Wednesday evening in Romulus. The
EPA will be holding an information session and public hearing
regarding the proposed land ban exemption for the Hazardous Waste
Deep Injection well in Romulus. (The land ban exemption is granted
if EPA agrees that the company has demonstrated that the wastes being
injected will not migrate to the surface of seep into underground
drinking water for 10,000 years.)

The well would be the first commercial hazardous waste injection well
in the state. It's important to have a strong showing at the public
hearing to let the EPA they should deny the land ban exemption.
Michigan doesn't need or want this well.

WHEN: Wednesday, Jan 8, starting at 5pm.
WHERE: Crowne Plaza Hotel, 8000 Merriman Rd., Romulus MI
WHAT: Information session (5 PM to 7 PM) and Public Hearing (starting at 7 PM)

To review EPA documents related to the Romulus well and the land ban
exemption, go to:
http://www.epa.gov/region5/water/uic/uicpub.htm and scroll down to
"Current events and hot topics"

The EPA will be accepting written comments until January 22nd.
