The best answer to the
disgraceful hokum of the anti-bottle deposit expansion forces is to show up
at hearings of the State Senate task force reviewing the issue and speak out for
a stronger, better deposit law. Citizens had to pass it the first time in 1976
and they may well have to do it again.
The first hearings are now scheduled:
February 17 in Grand Rapids and March 3 in Oakland County. Some details at the

It's interesting, by the way, that all
members of the Beverage Container and Recycling Task Force are
Republicans. Senator Sikkema, who created the task force, called on
Governor Granholm last week to appoint a bipartisan smart growth commission,
including Democrats and Republicans. Bipartisanship begins at home.
