FIRST FRIDAY LUNCHEON
SPEAKER: Nancy and Tom Small are co-founders and current co-presidents
of the Kalamazoo Area Chapter of Wild Ones Natural Landscapers. Since
retiring from Western Michigan University English Department in 1996,
they've been turning their urban yard of less than half an acre into better
habitat for wildlife - a process that ha transformed them as well as their
yard. Now their mission is to spread the appreciation and the use of native
plants as widely as they can.
TOPIC: "Natural Habitats for Small Urban Yards" Nancy and Tom will
illustrate some of what they learned while transforming their yard (and
themselves): how to work with, instead of against, nature; how to put
everything to use; how to share your yard with other people as well as other
animals; and why working in one's own yard leads inevitably to working in
other people's "yards" as well.
