On Wednesday afternoon, the House Land Use and Environment Committee will hear testimony on HB 4284 authorizing local governments to create joint planning commissions. This is an important first step in coordinating planning among local units of government. The bill removes the barrier to cooperation created by Michigan's three separate planning acts by allowing neighboring units of government to operate under a single planning act.
