A Photo Essay Contest

Sponsored by the Michigan Environmental Council and the Detroit Free

Has your city, county, or township found a creative way to combat an
environmental problem.? Have your friends or neighbors come up with
something innovative to make your part of the world a better, cleaner
place to live?

If so we want everyone to see it.

"Picture the Solution" is a photo-essay contest being cosponsored by the
Michigan Environmental Contest and the Detroit Free Press to raise
public awareness of new solutions for environmental problems. What to
do? Send us an 8 x 10 photo, with a typed caption (maximum 150 words)
explaining why what's going on in the picture makes the environment
better. Participants should think broadly about environmental challenges
facing their community, including but not limited to air and water
pollution, health impacts, traffic, sprawl, trash, blight and more.

Winners, who will be notified by May 25, will be chosen in three age
categories: 8-13, 14-18, and 19-plus. Prizes include cash ($50 - $1000)
and the Barbara Stanton Environmental Award of Excellence, named for the
recently retired Detroit Free Press editorial writer.

Entries need to be mailed by May 12, and they must include your name,
address, telephone number, age, school (if applicable), e-mail address
(if one is available), and the typewritten caption.
