Program Assistant
Job Description

Start Date:  As soon as possible

The League of Michigan Bicyclists (LMB) seeks a part time Programs 
Assistant for both administrative and program duties to help us in our 
mission of Making Michigan a Bicycle-Friendly State.  The work schedule 
is 10-12 hours a week with some flexiblity in scheduling and pays $7-$9 
an hour depending on qualifications. No benefits. If funding is 
acquired, the position may become full time with benefits. Casual dress 
appropriate and bicycle commuting strongly encouraged.  Non-smoking 
building. Worksite is in downtown Lansing, MI on the River Trail.

Mastery of Microsoft Office software and Internet;
Strong verbal and writing skills;
Comfort with public contact on phone, by email and in person.
Some knowledge of  transportation planning, environmental issues, 
alternative modes, bicycle safety education; land use, public policy or 
related disciplines
Four-year college degree in a related field preferred; if currently in a 
Degree Program, Upperclass or Graduate Student preferred.

Lansing area resident
Daily access to Internet
Commitment to promoting alternative modes; MUST be a frequent bicycle 
rider and agree to use a helmet when commuting or on LMB business.
Some night and weekend work required.
Job requires occasional lifting and carrying boxes weighing 25-35 lbs.; 
walking up and down stairs, talking on telephone; sitting at a computer 
and entering data using keyboard and mouse

Administrative tasks:
Membership database entry - MS Access program
Process and fulfill memberships, donation recognition, merchandise and 
information requests
Filing of program and administrative documents
Bicycle Event Poster Calendar event compilation - Excel spreadsheets, 
mail merge, emails, etc.
Assist in preparation of Board Meeting Packets
Proofread documents
Help maintain Resource Library Database

Program Tasks:
Note: Given the time limitations of the position, following are some 
examples of the kinds of projects the Programs Assistant will undertake.
Develop outreach program to college students promoting safe bicycling 
and bike theft prevention
Revise Bicycle Parking manual for buildings
Update and mail annual organization survey to bike clubs/orgs in state
Research and create membership survey with donated incentives for 
Create "Bikes are Good Business" program
Thank businesses using bikes in ads and urge helmet use when cyclists 
without helmets depicted
Research feasibility of utility bill inserts promoting biking
Research feasibility of creating In-service training for law enforcement 
Collect and analyze statistics on bike crashes and thefts
The LMB  is a non-profit membership organization, with the mission of 
Working to Make Michigan a Bicycle Friendly State. Our Board of 
Directors, dozens of volunteers, full-time Executive Director work on a 
variety of projects all over Michigan to advance bicycling for both 
residents and visitors.

The LMB works to improve conditions for cyclists statewide in 
cooperation with the Michigan Department of Transportation and other 
agencies.  We also collaborate with bike shops and clubs around the 
state on many projects.  We promote cycle tourism in Michigan, 
distribute general cycling information, educate children and adults on 
safe cycling and represent the interests of cyclists to policy makers 
and at public hearings.
