Already trucking in thousands of tons of household garbage from Canada, the Carleton Farms landfill here is finalizing a four-year deal to accept Canadian human waste.
"We're at the peak right now of interest in this issue," said Mike Garfield, director of the Ecology Center, a statewide environmental advocacy group in Ann Arbor. "The fact that Toronto is considering a new contract to ship not just household trash, but sewage sludge, to Michigan is going to lead to a renewed firestorm."
