Tuesday ozone/smog episode is shaping up as some
of the worst ozone/smog Michigan has experienced in
recent years.   At 6 pm, 19 of 24 MDEQ ozone monitoring
stations are showing ambient ozone concentrations over
the level of the 85 ppb federal health standard.

In several Michigan communities individuals with pulmonary
sensitivities should take measures to limit their outdoor

At 6 PM, the worst air pollution is being experienced in the
east side of Detroit to Port Huron corridor and the west Michigan
area from Muskegon to Holland and Jenison area.

At 6 PM, Port Huronis at 133 ppb, 1 hour average...and excursion
over the old health standard.   New Haven is in its fourth hour
over 100 ppb, and had two hours at 134 and 135 ppb at 4 and 5 pm.
Detroit east side is in its 5th hour at or over 100 ppb.   Oak Park
has been at or over 100 ppb for the last 4 hour.   Even Tecumseh
has had 2 hours over 100, indicating potentially very high transport into
Michigan from Indiana/Ohio.   Imagery at www.epa.gov/airnow
indicates that Ohio is having an even worse episode tonight than

Muskegon hit 123 ppb earlier and is in its 5th hour over 100 ppb....
...and Holland has been over 100 for the last 4 hours.
