E-M:/ RE: / State Fair Carbon Monoxide

I would also be very concerned about emissions at the Tire Burn-out at the
same fair:-
"Undoubtedly the loudest event will be the Belle Tire Burn-Out Contests at 8
p.m. Friday and 7 p.m. Saturday at the Greektown Casino Band Shell."
I find it very hard to believe that the fumes created at a tire burn-out
would be inert, considering that the plumes of tire pile fires have been
found by the US EPA to contain "general, elevated levels of CO,
particulates, carbon, zinc, benzene, toluene, xylene and polyaromatic
hydrocarbons". See "The Prevention and Management of Scrap Tire Fires"
especially the Introduction (pp1-3) & Chapter 7: Environmental Concerns
(pp30-35), at

Today's Detroit News says that a demolition derby will be
held indoors at the state fair grounds in an "air conditioned"
coloseum building..... This is probably not the smartest thing
that one could do from the standpoint of exposing folks to
a lot of carbon monoxide.
