Since it was founded 25 years ago, Urban Options has established itself
as a major voice in Mid Michigan for using energy and other resources
efficiently, responsibly, and cost effectively. We have partnered with

and the energy and environmental demonstration house have prepared Urban
Options to become an even more resourceful, skillful, and effective
voice in the community. We want to help all members of our communities
to be proficient practitioners of resource conservation, energy
efficiency, and renewable energy. Right now, Urban Options is seeking a
dynamic Executive Director to lead our organization to become an even
more vibrant and formidable force for sustainable communities. All

Urban Options is a non-profit educational organization, with 501(c)(3)
status, founded in 1978, with headquarters at 405 Grove St, East Lansing
MI 48823. Urban Options has an opening for the position of Executive

Mission Statement
Urban Options helps people improve the environment and save money by
using energy and other resources more efficiently. Major objectives
presently include: (1) to maintain and increase Urban Options’ financial
security; (2) to be a major information source for and increase
awareness of environmental sustainability; (3) to provide a model for
sustainability; (4) to develop and maintain programs of high quality and
integrity; (5) to attract, develop, and maintain sufficient, qualified
staff to manage, operate, and implement the programs of Urban Options;
and (6) to develop and maintain a high quality volunteer program.
General Summary of Function and Purpose of Position
The Executive Director serves as the chief executive officer for Urban
Options (UO), reports to the Board of Directors (BD), and takes primary
responsibility for organizational design and management, strategic
planning, project development and grant support, public and news media
relations, and project coordination. The Executive Director will
facilitate communications amongst staff, the board of directors,
advisory board, general members, donors, clients, constituents, and
customers. In addition, depending on the specific interests and
abilities of the incumbent, the Executive Director may function as a
project director or project assistant. Fundraising and strategic
planning are shared responsibilities between the Executive Director and
members of the BD.
This is a full-time, salaried position, which includes health insurance,
paid vacation, and flexible hours. The expected base salary is in the
range of $35,000 to $40,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications.
An annual merit and performance bonus may be available, based on the
success of fundraising efforts and the development and success of UO
programs.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate is one who is self-motivated, self-directed, and
creative, and possesses excellent skills, abilities, and experience in:
(a) written and oral communications, interpersonal communications, and
public and news media relations; (b) organizational design, development,
and management, including financial planning and management,
team-building and developing and nurturing partnerships; and (c) energy
and environmental sustainability issues and education.
