The Michigan Environmental Council holds a photo and essay contest each year to raise awareness of environmental problems and possible solutions.
Co-sponsored by the Detroit Free Press, photographers are asked to consider inventive ways to help make the world a better, cleaner place, and document these ideas in an original 8x10 inch photograph and short essay of no more than 200 words.
The Barbara Stanton Environmental Award of Excellence is named for Barbara Stanton, a retired Free Press editorial writer and champion of the environment.
Age groups: 8-13, 14-18 and 19+
1st prize- $500, 2nd prize- $250, 3rd prize- $100
1st, 2nd & 3rd prizes awarded to each age group
Winnerís photo and/or essay may be placed in the Sunday Edition of the Detroit Free Press Editorial page.
Entries must be postmarked no later than Friday, May 7.
Photos must be taken by entrant only.
E-mailed images MUST be 300dpi or higher.

Entries are judged by a panel of Michigan Environmental Council and Detroit Free Press judges. By entering, winners agree to allow Michigan Environmental Council unlimited use of image and essay.
