FACILITIES ILLEGALLY POLLUTING MICHIGAN’S WATERWAYS PIRGIM TO RELEASE REPORT DOCUMENTING NON-COMPLIANCE WITH THE CLEAN WATER ACT
WHAT: PIRGIM will release a new report documenting facilities in Michigan polluting Michigan’s waterways in violation of their Clean Water Act permits.
Using data obtained from U.S. EPA in response to a Freedom of Information Act request, PIRGIM looked at major facilities exceeding their Clean Water Act permits in 2002 and the first six months of 2003, assessed the pollutants they are discharging in our waterways and determined the amounts by which these facilities are exceeding permitted pollution levels.
