The Environmental Law and Policy Center (ELPC), the Midwest's leading
environmental legal advocacy organization, seeks to hire a public interest
attorney advocate with 6+ years of experience for a full-time position in
our Chicago office. This attorney will work on ELPC's environmental
litigation and policy issues around the Midwest, especially focused on
energy issues (including global warming) and on transportation, sprawl and
land use reform issues.
The Environmental Law and Policy Center is a regional public interest
environmental advocacy organization working in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan,
Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin. ELPC's major program areas include:
promoting sustainable energy strategies that reduce environmental
degradation by encouraging energy efficiency and renewable resource
alternatives to nuclear and coal plants; promoting innovative transportation
approaches, such as the development of a Midwest high-speed railroad
network, that will lead to cleaner air and more jobs, and proposing better
alternatives to sprawl-inducing new road projects; and developing sound
environmental management practices that conserve natural resources and
improve the quality of life in our communities. One of ELPC's premises is
that environmental progress and economic development can be achieved
together. ELPC's multidisciplinary professional staff includes 16
attorneys, environmental business specialists, public policy advocates and
communications specialists. ELPC was established in 1993 and has an annual
budget of $3.1 million.

Assist ELPC's executive director on special projects. Participate as member
of ELPC's multidisciplinary project teams including policy advocates,
communications specialists, and organizers.

knowledge in at least one of the following legal fields is preferable:

success. Strong writing and oral presentation skills required. Should
understand and enjoy multifaceted public policy strategic advocacy that
involves media, legislative, policy analysis and organizing approaches
conducted in conjunction with effective legal advocacy. An inspired and
demonstrated commitment to public interest advocacy and the ability to work
productively as a member of a team of skilled professionals is required.
SALARY: Commensurate with experience and with ELPC's salary structure that
is competitive with other large public interest environmental organizations.
Excellent benefits provided.
