E-M:/ NYTimes article, water in the Southwest

Enviro-Mich message from "John Rohe" <rohe@freeway.net>

Friends,
The threat to Great Lakes waters from dry and thirsy states merits our
attention. To quote Sagady: "They may be after water here next!"
With every 10 year census, Michigan cedes another seat in Congress to the
parched states having exploding populations. What is often called a water
shortage is actually a people longage. This longage, wielding political
influence, is not caused by high birth rates. The dry states have been at or
below replacement level fertility. History has carried us beyond the point
of rationally discussing Great Lakes water diversion issues without
addressing immigration policies. We can try to ignore the issue, but the
issue will not ignore us.
Sincerely,
John Rohe
