E-M:/ WI DNR Adopts New Mercury Rules - cutting emissions more than Feds

Enviro-Mich message from "Anne M. Woiwode" <anne.woiwode@sierraclub.org>

While not perfect, the Wisconsin DNR has now adopted rules that, pending
legislative approval, move toward reduction of mercury faster and
farther than the Bush Administration. AW

New Mercury Rules Ok'd Wisconsin State Journal for Thursday, June 24,
2004 Juliet Williams Associated

The state Natural Resources Board unanimously passed rules Wednesday
that would force Wisconsin power plants to limit mercury emissions in
advance of a federal law that would do the same.
The new rules would require coal-fired power plants to cut mercury
emissions by by 40 percent by 2010, 75 percent by 2015 and by 80 percent
by 2018. (The Bush proposal would only get to about 70% by 2018.)
