GRAND RIVER FLOTILLA TO CARRY MESSAGE TO VICE PRESIDENT CHENEY: PROTECT MICHIGAN’S COMMUNITIES AND FAMILIES
Lansing, Michigan – Michigan Sierra Club members and environmental supporters will hold a rally and river flotilla (via canoe) today to protest the Bush Administration’s failure to protect Michigan’s air and water quality during a visit to the Lansing by Vice President Dick Cheney and Senator John McCain. The Grand River, which is listed as an “impaired waterway” by the US EPA flows through downtown Lansing and next to the Lansing Center, where the Vice President and Senator McCain will be speaking.
WHAT: Protest canoe flotilla on the Grand River and press conference to tell Vice President Dick Cheney and Senator John McCain to clean up Michigan’s rivers and lakes, clean up the air and protect the health of our families.

WHEN: Canoes will launch from Sweeny’s Landing in Lansing at 10:30am, Friday, July 16th, 2004. Press conference and protest will take place at Wentworth Park at 11am, across the river from the Lansing Center. After the press conference, protestors will congregate at the designated protest zone at Riverfront Park, on Museum Lane, behind the City Market. Boats will land at the same location.
Flotilla Launch Site: Sweeny’s Landing - From the corner of Kalamazoo and Cherry Streets (at Davenport College), turn S. on Cherry Street. Go 3 blocks south. Where Cherry dead-ends into 496, turn left onto St. Joseph, which dead-ends into Sweeny’s Landing.
Rally & Press Conference Site: Wentworth Park, corner of Michigan and Grand, Lansing.
