Rash of fires threatened national forest, tourism business in northern Michigan

Sherwood faces 18 felony counts of setting fires in the national forest -- including three in a single week in May.

Investigators say Sherwood has been setting fires since 2002 — blazes that destroyed hundreds of acres of Michigan forest, threatened the region’s tourism industry and endangered lives along one of the state’s beloved trout and canoeing streams, the Au Sable River.
