This training program is one component of the RC&D Council's efforts to
implement an Ash Utilization Options Grant from the USDA Forest Service
Economic Action Program. With the support of this funding, the RC&D Council
plans to address the Emerald Ash Borer infestation in Southeast Michigan in
a positive way. Through a series of demonstration projects, training
sessions, and inventory efforts, the Council will show the potential
benefits of processing the large quantities of woody material created by the
EAB's devastation of local ash trees into a variety of value-added products.
This project will ideally create an infrastructure to support future
recycling of all urban wood waste in the region, thereby reducing the burden
on local landfills, creating a new market for quality wood products, and
supplying an additional source of revenue to Southeast Michigan.
