State seeks TB-free status for Upper Peninsula

TRAVERSE CITY -- The state of Michigan asked the federal government Friday to declare the Upper Peninsula free of bovine tuberculosis.

If the U.S. Department of Agriculture agrees, the Upper Peninsula will become the first part of Michigan to regain TB-free status since it was revoked statewide in 2000 because of an outbreak in the northeastern Lower Peninsula.
