Toxic Free Shores warns source of PCB contamination in St. Clair Shores not yet identified
There has been some confusion about the source of PCBs in St. Clair Shores canals that was discussed at the Macomb County Water Quality Board meeting on December 14, 2004
The source of PCB contamination was not identified at Tuesday?s meeting. Instead, environmental consultants told the public that they have homed in on a possible source within a larger area that is being investigated as the cause of PCB contamination in the 10 Mile Drain System and the 10 Mile/Lange and Lange/Revere canals. The location identified at Bon Brae and Harper is one of several being investigated as a possible source of PCBs.
"Until a full investigation is completed and an actual source is verified, Toxic Free Shores recommends that the media and press use caution in its efforts to report this information," said TFS representative, Brenda Rothstein.
Toxic Free Shoresis a non-profit organization created by citizens, to provide knowledge and to enhance the safety of all who may be directly or indirectly affected by hazardous contaminants found in and along Lake St. Clair and its watershed.
