With only two weeks left for public comment on the Hamtramck Medical Waste
Incinerator, HEAT (the Hamtramck Environmental Action Team) is holding a
demonstration/protest in front of the facility.
Its at 10 AM Dec 21st (Tuesday Morning) at Conant and Vincent Streets in
Hamtramck.
"I don't care if it is 4 days before Christmas its important to show
the owners of the incinerator and the state that the community does not
want a new weaker permit for this old out of compliance facility"
said City Councilmember Rob Cedar
State Senator Martha Scott will be on hand with local residents, community
leaders and representivies from major environmental groups to protest
the operation of this pollution source that has never been in
compliance with their 1999 consent agreement and wants to redefine the
incinerator by calling it a co-combuster allowed to burn up to 21 tons per day
of pathological, chemotherapy, pharmaceutical and other special medical waste
products.
Cider, coffee and donuts will be available.
Hope to see you there,
Rob Cedar
